Anthony Wolf (Marolyn) and their five children and James Butler, husband of his late sister Marie Isabel Wolf and their two children.

Life Legacy


Col. Charles R. Wolf, Jr., of Shalimar, Florida, passed away on Saturday August 27, 2011, in a local hospital. Col. Wolf was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on April 4, 1919 to the late Charles R. Wolf, Sr. and Mary Looney Wolf.

He retired from the U.S. Army in 1971 after thirty years of active military service and moved to this area in 1976. Later, after six years of study, he was Ordained a Permanent Deacon in the Roman Catholic Church in 1989, and assigned to St. Mary Catholic Church in Fort Walton Beach, Fl. Prior to his death he was deeply involved in the ministry of the sick of the parish, including those confined to the hospital, the home-bound and those in nursing homes.

His military career included assignments in the 80th Infantry Division in the European Theater during World War II, and later overseas in the Pacific Theater. He also served stateside in a number of command and staff positions, including the General Staff Department of the Army, as well as in the Office of Emergency Planning in the Executive Office of the President, Washington, D.C. He was awarded the Legion of Merit with Cluster, the Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Medal. He attended Louisiana State University, Centenary College and received a B.S. Degree from the University of Maryland and later a B.A. Degree from St. Leo’s College, Tampa, Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Katharine H. Wolf; son, Dr. Charles R. Wolf III(Melissa) of Augusta, GA. Also survived by a granddaughter, Mrs. Emily Ladky (Greg) of Cleveland, OH and grandson, Charles R. Wolf IV of Augusta, GA; daughters, Meredith A. Wolf of Sunny Hills, FL and Katharine G. Wolf of Fort Walton Beach, FL; son, B/Gen. William T. Wolf (Sandra) Commanding General of the Army Readiness Command, Fort Rucker, AL. Colonel Wolf is also survived by brother, Lt. Col. (USAF Ret.) Col. Wolf was engaged in the past in a number of local activities, including Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Okaloosa County, The Republican Club, Fort Walton Beach Kiwanis Club, a former member of the Executive Board of United Way, as well as a former member of the Krewe of Billy Bowlegs, and the Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree. His most rewarding activities since retirement from the military service was his Ordination and Service to Permanent Deacon (May 31, 1989).

Deacon Wolf was awarded the Christus Medicus Medal (2002) for his activities particularly with the sick.
He received the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee Medal of Honor by Bishop John Ricard (June 20, 2009) for his outstanding ministry to the sick.

Deacon Wolf’s body will lie in state at St. Mary Catholic Church, Wednesday, August 31, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the Holy Rosary recited at 11:00 a.m. The Mass of Resurrection with Monsignor Michael Cherup, Monsignor Raymond Mullins and Reverend Craig Smith will be offered at 11:30, followed by interment at Beal Memorial Cemetery with full military honors. A reception will take place immediately after the burial in the Parish Life Center. It is requested that contributions be made to St. Mary Church Building Fund or a charity of your choice.
